What is a CAL?

A CAL or Crochet Along is a virtual event in which makers from all around the world get together to work on the same pattern during a set period of time. There are usually live virtual events and lots of prizes to win!

How/Where to get the pattern?

There are TWO ways to get your hands on the pattern!

1) Get EARLY access to the Pattern for FREE by being a Plyful member!

All members will be able to add the pattern to their Library and download it for free  without using any credits from May 5th until the end of the CAL.

2) Wait until May 12th and buy the pattern from Pascuali!

The Schedule

This is the schedule of planned activities during the CAL. 

Plyful Live Events are usually reserved ONLY for members. However, we are opening our doors to Pearl CAL guests and expanding the repertoire of activities!

Sizes + Measurements

This pattern comes in 10 different sizes. The instructions for each size are color-coded and in the order shown here: 1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7)(8, 9, 10).

When choosing a size, it is recommended to consider the finished measurements of the garment, desired ease and your actual body measurements. To do this, measure a garment that you like the fit of and make the size that more closely matches the measurements of that garment.

These are the approximate measurements of the finished item:

a. Bust1: 82.5 (92.5, 102.5, 112.5)(122.5, 132.5, 142.5) (152.5, 162.5, 172.5) cm / 32½ (36½, 40½, 44¼ )(48¼, 52¼, 56)(60, 64, 68) in

The sample is size 3 for a tighter fit; model measures about 103 cm / 40½ in around bust.

Materials

Yardage and other Materials

The YARN

The pattern calls for Fingering weight yarn.
My grey sample was made with Arctic Pearl by Pascuali.
This yarn, made of 100% Lyocell (Seacell), is a total GAME CHANGER! The drape and feel are amazing and it was a real treat to work with.

Find it in 50g balls (245 m / 268 yds). I used color 02 Stone.

I am currently working on a second sample made wiith Pascuali, Pinta and I am throughly enjoying the process! The Ramie (a type of nettle) combined with silk and wool make this yarn incredibly special!

Find Pinta in 50 g skeins (60% Organic Merino Wool, 20% Mulberry Silk, 20% Ramie, 212 m / 232 yds). I used the hand dyed color H211 Marigold.

Yardage/Meterage Requirements

Approx 1010 (1088, 1165, 1290)(1435, 1580, 1785)(1915, 2065, 2185) m / 1100 (1190, 1275, 1415)(1570, 1730, 1955)(2095, 2260, 2390) yds for a cropped garment with 23cm / 9 in (6 patt reps) of body length below underarm.

Every lace pattern repeat is approx 3.8 cm / 1½ in, and will add approx 60 (67, 75, 81.5)(89, 96, 103)(110, 118, 125) m / 65 (73, 81, 89)(97, 105, 113)(121, 129, 137) yds of yarn for the body section.

Yardage provided includes 5% extra for swatching and margin of error. Adjust amounts for desired length.

Approx 5 (5, 6, 6)(7, 7, 8)(9, 9, 10) balls of Arctic Pearl by Pascuali for a cropped top.

Hooks

4 mm Tunisian crochet hook, or size needed to meet gauge, using a 100 cm or longer cable for the body and 40 or 60 cm cable for the rest of the sections. A 4.5 mm or larger hook for making the braided edging and straps.

Notions

tapestry needle, stitch markers (will need between 36 – 50 for marking short rows), scissors.

Yarn Substitutes

Any fingering weight yarn will work. Here are some I recommend based on their weight and fiber content. There are also some recommendations for warmer weather climates!

Gauge

20 sts x 21 rows worked flat after blocking = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.

Be sure to block and check gauge before starting by making a big enough gauge swatch (at least 15 x 15 cm / 6 x 6 in).

Certain materials might sag, and fabric may extend too much with drape, so adjust hook size appropriately.

Lace Stitch Pattern for gauge:

Ch a multiple of 10 + 1.

Row 1: Starting in second ch from hook, *insert hook into ch, yo, pull up a loop; rep from * to end of ch. RetP. [mult of 10 + 1 sts – st count will remain the same]

The first st of each row is the loop already on your hook before the row starts, and it is NOT included in the written instructions, but it IS counted in the st total.

Note: On all odd following rows, make sure to pull up a loop inside the yo holes to count as a tss.

Row 2: *2yo, tss3, tss3tog, tss3, 2yo, tss1; rep from * to end of row. RetP (see Special Techniques for how to RetP over 2yo). [mult of 10 + 1 sts – 2yo counts as 1 st]

Row 3: Tss to end of row. RetP.

Row 4: *tss1, 2yo, tss2, tss3tog, tss2, 2yo, tss2; rep from * to end of row. RetP.

Row 5: Tss to end of row. RetP.

Row 6: *tss2, 2yo, tss1, tss3tog, tss1, 2yo, tss3; rep from * to end of row. RetP.

Row 7: Tss to end of row. RetP.

Row 8: *tss3, 2yo, tss3tog, 2yo, tss4; rep from * to end of row. RetP.

Row 9: Tss to end of row. RetP.

Repeat Rows 2 – 9 for desired gauge swatch size.
