Named after Andrea’s lovely aunt, the Paulina Sweater is a celebration of the textures that are possible in crochet simply by modifying a few of the most basic stitches like the single or double crochet, and also how a stitch changes depending on what loop you work it into.Worked over a 4 row repeat, the Paulina Sweater features a modified drop shoulder construction with a mock neckline, bottom ribbing, and sleeve cuffs meant to emulate 2 x 2 knit ribbing. The entire sweater is worked seamlessly and top-down so that you can try it on as you go and adjust the body and sleeve length to your preference. Yardage provided includes 5% extra for swatching and margin of error. Adjust amounts for desired length.

Hooks

• 4.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to meet gauge.
• a hook that is 1 mm smaller than the one used to for the body

Alternative Yarns

Any fingering weight yarn will work – keep in mind that yarn content will affect drape and warmth levels.

Swatch Instructions

This st pattern is worked with 3 different sts and is a 4-row repeat.

Row 1: (WS) Fldc any even number of sts.

Row 2: (RS) Ch 1 and turn. Yoss 1 in every st across the row.

Row 3: (WS) Ch 2 and turn. Dc 1, then *codc 3lo.* Repeat * – * until 1 st remains. Ldc into the last st, inserting your hook into the center of the last codc to create the end ldc.

Row 4: (RS) Ch 1 and turn. Yoss 1 in every st across the row.

Row 5: (WS) Ch 2 and turn. Ldc 1, then ldc 3lo until 1 st remains. Ldc through both loops of the last st.

Repeat the rows 2-5 until your work is as long as you’d like.

Remember to block your swatch, and make it at least 13 x 13 cm / 5 x 5 in so that you can measure the inner 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in to obtain an accurate gauge.
