Starlight Cardigan

Color Guide

Color is one of the best forms of self-expression in clothing. It allows you to be bold or keep things safe. Either way, it is a great way to play with yarn!

Use this Color Guide forinspiration as you select your palette for the Starlight Cardigan. And remember to have fun choosing colors for this one-of-a-kind garment!

The Starlight Color Guide

How to choose the right colors?

As a basic rule-of-thumb when deciding on colors for a colorwork garment, you should look for colors with good contrast between them. This ensures that the colors won't blend with each other - instead, that they will pop and create a striking effect.
An easy way to know if your chosen colors have the necessary contrast between them is to take a picture with your phone and convert it to grayscale (or black-and-white).
If you can still tell that they are different colors when all the saturation has been stripped of the images, then you have a winning pair!

This color combination has great contrast.

This one, not so much!

If you need any extra inspiration, here are a few suggested color schemes that would work great for a colorwork garment like Starlight!

Mixing with Neutrals

Using neutral colors like grey or beige mixed with a color or another neutral is ALWAYS a safe bet

Monochrome for the Win

Sticking with a single color with different saturations of it is an easy way to feel adventurous knowing that you will get a great combination

Let’s have some fun!

If you feel adventurous, mixing colors is a great way to show off your personality and to make your wardrobe shine
